Boston Center for the Arts Dance Residency

Friday, February 10th, 2012
Saturday, February 11th, 2012

Contrapose Dance is in residency at the BCA from January 16-Feb 12, 2012 and will premiere “groundwork”, a culminating performance of repertory and commissioned works on February 10th and 11th 2012.

During the BCA Dance Residency, Contrapose dancers will rehearse intensively with New York based choreographer Sydney Skybetter of skybetter and associates learning his repertory work “Potemkin Piece”. The formalistic modern dance piece will then be featured as a Boston premiere in “groundwork”. Further expanding the reach of the BCA Dance Residency program, Contrapose has invited Massachusetts-based choreographer Mariah Steele to create new work on company dancers. Also featured is “Ground”, a piece by Contrapose Dance Artistic Director Courtney Peix, that addresses feelings of frustration and repetitive efforts, and the resolution that comes from moving forward.

In addition to preparing for “groundwork”, Contrapose Dance will host a series of Master Classes led by Sydney Skybetter and Kristen Arnold of skybetter and associates on the BCA campus. Classes will introduce the diversity of contemporary movement vocabularies in context of the skybetter and associates repertory and will be held on January 28th and February 5th

THE SCHEDULE

If you have ever wanted to take class with the company-now’s your chance! Open ballet, modern, and gyro classes are offered throughout the residency. Artistic director Courtney Peix, guest choreographer Mariah Steele, dancer Arian Winn, and New York guests skybetter and associates will be teaching class!

You can also have a look at our rehearsal process during our open rehearsals, and take masterclasses with skybetter and associates.
